History of The Village of Piketon
Did you know? Piketon, Ohio, then named Jefferson, was the Pike County seat for over 40 years. The Ohio Erie canal bypassed Piketon and went through Waverly where the county seat was moved in 1861. You can still see the courthouse office names above the windows. The building now houses the Dogwood Festival offices and is in the Piketon Historic District—Posted to the National Register of Historic Places on February 28, 1974 (Reference number 74001598).
